About Hamama Crafts

Rooted in the wild, windswept beauty of Dartmoor, Hamama Crafts is a small, slow craft business founded and lovingly run by Laani Takahata.

Drawing inspiration from the ancient landscapes that surround her, Laani creates pieces that are deeply connected to land, lineage, and time. She works as a felter, spinner, weaver, crocheter, and ancestral crafter—each garment and object emerging as a piece of wild, wearable art.

Through ancestral craft practices, Laani moves intentionally and slowly, honoring the rhythms of nature and the ways of those who came before. Each piece is not only handmade, but heart-made—part of a journey to reconnect with the lifeways of our shared human ancestry, and especially with the Ancestors of Dartmoor.

The moor's ancient settlements and prehistoric sites stir Laani’s creative dreaming. These landscapes shape her inner world and feed the deep, intuitive process behind every Hamama creation.

Hamama Crafts invites you to walk a little closer to the land—wrapped in the beauty, slowness, and spirit of something truly handmade.

Wool, Connection, and Craft

At Hamama Crafts, clothing is made from felted wool—a material Laani considers sacred, magical, and alive with story.

Most of the wool is sourced locally from Dartmoor and South Devon, while the rest is lovingly gathered from wool fairs and farm open days across the country. Laani delights in the journey of finding the perfect fleece—seeking out regenerative, organic, and holistic farms, and always guided by a deep respect for the animals and the land they live on.

Meeting the farmers, walking the fields, and seeing the sheep that grow this wool creates a sense of connection and gratitude that flows directly into the making process. Every piece begins with raw fleece and is slowly transformed by hand into wearable, felted art.

Workshops and Courses

Laani offers workshops and courses designed to guide people through the full process—from raw fleece to finished felt, and finally to handmade clothing.

In these sessions, you can learn to craft your own waistcoat, slippers, sheepy collar, hat, or pouch. All skill levels are welcome, and each workshop is grounded in slowness, intention, and connection to craft and land.

If no workshops are currently listed on the website, don’t hesitate to reach out—Laani is available for private bookings, one-day felting sessions, or visits to forest schools for magical felting days with children.
